Holland America Cruise Lines Smoking policies for
their ships while aboard. We really could not find anything
that looks like a strong smoking policy and you can read what we found
below. We did find quite a few complaints about the smoking on
Holland America ships and the second hand smoke they had to live with.
Holland America Cruise Line is apparently in transition with regard
to it's smoking policies. It was one of the last mass market lines to
have a smoking section in dining rooms, but it is now establishing many
more totally non smoking areas.
Smoking is not permitted in any dining venues, both indoors or areas
designed for al fresco dining.
There are totally smoke free areas designated on the Vista Ships:
Noordam, Westerdam, Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, including: All restaurants;
the Atrium Bar; Crow's nest (on Vista ships only); Explorations Cafe;
Explorer's Lounge; Library; Magradome (lido pool area); Piano Bar;
Queen's Lounge (Vista ships only have this area); Show Lounge; Theater;
the Wine Bar; and all the public corridors inside.
There are areas onboard which have both designated smoking and non
smoking areas. These are: the Casino; Northern Lights Disco Bar; Oak
Room; Ocean Bar; outside decks; Seaview Bar; Sports Bar; Crow's Nest on
non-Vista ships (doubles as disco) Smoking is allowed in guest cabins,
and on private balconies.
Holland America Line Establishes Non-Smoking Dining Areas
Seattle, January 16, 2002 - Holland America Line will begin implementing
a new onboard smoking policy on February 1, 2002. Smoking no longer will
be permitted in any of the dining areas, including main dining rooms and
the enclosed portion of Lido restaurants.
The new policy will be phased in as each ship embarks on a new cruise on
or after February 1. Nearly all ships will have smoke-free dining areas
by the middle of February with the ms Amsterdam implementing the new
policy following its 100-day Grand World Voyage on April 30, 2002.
Alternative restaurants have been non-smoking since their introduction
and continue to be non-smoking under the new policy. All ships will
continue to have designated smoking areas.
Smoking: What Holland America says;
For the comfort of all of our guests, designated smoking and nonsmoking
areas are available in most lounges. Smoking is not permitted at any
time in dining areas. Our ships do not have "nonsmoking" staterooms;
however, all rooms are thoroughly cleaned after each cruise to assure
the comfort of our guests. All showrooms are nonsmoking during
performances.

smoking policy, email us with the info and link for verification.
